“Chromecast: Stream Video, Music, and Everything Else You Love to Your TV” is a wonderful guide to understanding the basic video streaming function of the Chromecast with free and fee video streaming apps. It should be noted, the apps listed are accurately the only ones currently supported on the Chromecast.Iphone and Chrome casting media (Chrome recognized folders, photos, etc.) for other devices is touched upon with links and topical information near the end of the book. It is a start but not a detailed guide on how to. At this time (and no inference to a future change from Google) the Chromecast lacks function for natively streaming video from local files from a PC or MAC and though not mentioned in the book might be expected or misconstrued from the “Everything Else” in the book’s title.
Also, as expected from the title of the book, there are no functional comparisons to other popular video streaming devices – i.e. Amazon FireTV, Apple TV, Google TV, Roku’s, Slingbox, etc.,.
IMHO, these are not omissions on the part of the author but outside the boundaries of the books scope.
Everything in the book regarding Chromecast components, setup and connectivity is substantive. These core articles are thoroughly covered and provide invaluable user information for the novice and a handy reference for the installer and techie type. This area alone rates 5 stars with its explanations and illustrations.

This came in quite handy and was so much more explanatory than the little bit of instructions that came with the product. We did have some problems as it kept referring us to a 'device' . Being computer novices we ended up back at the store speaking with someone else about it. I did enjoy the additional information contained in this though.

This user guide tells of the basics of how to utilize the Chromecast device with several streaming services through a t.v., goes into decent detail about setting up the app on an android device and gives good input on tying products such as the kindle hdx with the Chromecast. But, it does not show how to or explain how to set it up on an IOS system or Apple product. It also does not explain technical details about what video and audio formats the Chromecast is able to decode for playback. Overall though, it is a decent guide for someone just jumping onto the streaming wagon.
